2020 Good Works update! Fraternal Order of Moai Foundation DOUBLES its annual donation to the EIF!

In this year of incredible uncertainty there is one thing that remains certain – the giving spirit of The Fraternal Order of Moai’s annual Ohana Luau at the Lake event. Held every June in Lake George, NY, Ohana is the main source of funds raised for our annual donation to the Easter Island Foundation (EIF). Normally a vibrant weekend event jam packed with live music, colorful community and “fun with a purpose,” this year we had to go 100% VIRTUAL. Dedicated to continuing our support of Rapa Nui despite the pandemic, we came together through a virtual Silent Auction and an enticing online fundraiser, featuring Eeekum Bookem drink bowls and a Shag pin set. These fundraising efforts were our most impressive to date, raising a record breaking amount of money for the people of Easter Island.

Because of the generosity of our Ohana, The Fraternal Order of Moai Foundation (a 501(c)(3) charitable organization) is increasing our 2020 donation by $30,000 – a total donation of $62,252! Our donation will be used by the EIF to support university scholarships for youth of Rapa Nui heritage, to support music education through the Toki School, to further support the Toki School’s efforts to preserve the Rapa Nui language and disciplines of the Island’s ancestral traditions, and to support Terevaka Archeological Outreach. In addition, the EIF and Fraternal Order of Moai are pleased to be working with Rapa Nui Governor Laura Tarita Alarcón Rapu (a former FOM scholarship recipient!) to determine the best ways this year’s additional funds can support the Island community. We look forward to a productive ongoing partnership, now and in our future fundraising efforts.
